Arrangements for applications for places in Years 7 - 11 at De Aston School will be made in accordance with Lincolnshire County Council's co-ordinated admission arrangements; parents resident in Lincolnshire can apply online at lincolnshire.gov.uk/schooladmissions, and parents resident in other areas must apply through their home local authority. De Aston School will use the Lincolnshire County Council's timetable published online for these applications and the relevant Local Authority will make the offers of places on their behalf as required by the School Admissions Code.
Information on secondary transfers for 2020 available here.
We would like to take this opportunity to warmly welcome our new Year 7s, who will be starting in September 2020, to De Aston School. We are delighted that you will be joining us and are eager to celebrate the success this academic year will bring.
Due to the current pandemic, plans and details regarding transition events are awaiting confirmation, we will therefore, keep in contact with you with updates. You will receive a letter with key information over the coming weeks. However, if you have any questions or concerns beforehand, please either contact Marrianne Laine (Head of Year 7) or Ruth Race (Transition Coordinator) on the emails below:
It is important that we get to know you before you join us later this year. Therefore, it would be great if you could get involved with the This is Me tasks. In addition, please also see the Guide to Pupil Excellence for you to read.
Wishing you and your families health and happiness in these unprecedented times.
Pupil Information Sheet
A reminder for all Year 6 pupils who will be joining us in Year 7 in September – please complete the blue Pupil Information sheet sent out directly to you in March and return these to Year 7 Admissions at De Aston School as soon as possible, or at the latest by 29th May 2020.
The forms enable us to record important details about each pupil as well as information about who to contact in the event of an emergency. Having up to date telephone numbers and email addresses for the parents/carers of our future students is particularly important in light of the current global coronavirus pandemic, in case we need to alter arrangements for the Induction Day at a later date. The communications of such information via SMS and email would be the most efficient method for us to use.
You should have received your Year 6 Induction information in the post. Please find electronic versions to these documents below. The trip consent form will need to be returned to De Aston either now via post or alternatively in September when you start.
If you have not received the documents please contact the school office. We hope you are looking forward to joining us in September but please do contact us at Year.email@example.com if you have any concerns or worries.
Worried about not knowing where to go? Have a look at our school map below to see what happens where. You will get your own copy of the map when you start in September.
You might also find it helpful to look at the example pages from the school planner – this shows you what you use your planner for and what an example timetable looks like. See also information from Head of Houses Miss Clark about our House system.
Despite being very excited about getting to know you, we understand that you and your families are still going to be very busy with other important things.
The Transition Activities we have created for you such as the ‘Work Booklet’ and ‘Day at De Aston timetable’ are optional activities there to support you as we want to introduce you to life at De Aston as much as we can. However, life continues to be busy for all of us, so view these tasks as options and an opportunity to show your talents to you tutor when you meet them.
Rule number one: Keep smiling!
Rule number two: Have fun!
Miss Laine (Head of Year 7)
Day at De Aston
This activity has been designed to help you get to know what it’s like to spend a day at De Aston.
It is up to you how closely you follow it, you may choose just to do the activities, or you might prepare yourself with a pack up and break time snacks and follow the timings exactly! Make sure you have the additional resources ready to help you. Enjoy!
This is Me Tasks
At De Aston, we believe that everyone is individual. We all have a set of superpowers and talents that make you, well, you! The tasks below will help us get to know you a bit better, you can choose 1 or all 3 if you wish and they can be brought with you on your first day into school. Happy crafting!
Transition Work Booklet
Getting ready to move to secondary school? Download and print off our transition work booklet below which includes lots of fun activities to help you prepare for moving to De Aston. Some of these activities help to tell us more about you so keep them safe and bring them along to your first day to show your tutor and Head of Year!
Transition Work Sheets
We would like to know how you are feeling about being at home and the upcoming transition to secondary school. We have created two work sheets for you to fill in that can be brought with you on your first day along with your Pupil Passport, or alternatively you can share with Miss Laine via email on firstname.lastname@example.org. If you don’t have the words to describe how you feel, then you can colour code instead.
De Aston French Virtual Tour
When you come to De Aston, not only will you learn French and possibly also German, you will also learn about the cultures of some of the many different countries where these languages are spoken! To give you a taster of what you can expect from us, we have made you a virtual trip to Tahiti. One of the many beautiful countries where French is spoken. Download the pdf below to get started.
Year 6 Food Technology Challenge – Food Art
Joining us in Year 7 in September? Fancy a summer holiday challenge? Design a plate of fruit and/or vegetables to look like an animal or bird. Take a photo and email it to Year.email@example.com.
In September we will judge the best and award Class Chart and house points to the winning entries. Good Luck!
If you think your child will be eligible for school transport from September onwards then you will need to apply for this via the Local Authority, if you have not already done so. This can be done via www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/school-college-transport or by telephoning Lincolnshire County Council’s School Transport Customer Service Centre on 01522 782020.
If you live in the Louth area, and are not eligible for school transport from the County Council, then transport to De Aston is available via the CallConnect service. Please telephone 0345 234 3344 for further information regarding this service.
The bus service for the Gainsborough area is run directly by the school. If you live in the Gainsborough area, and are not eligible for school transport from the County Council, then you will be sent a letter from De Aston regarding the Gainsborough bus service. Please note that due to the current situation surrounding coronavirus we are still working on finalising the Gainsborough bus routes. We will send letters directly to families as soon as possible.
Please see the De Aston School Uniform Illustration.
Uniform Direct Update
Uniform Direct stores will be re-opening on 15 June on selected days only. Please find details about their store opening times and ordering service here.
De Aston Uniform Shop update
As we are still dealing with Covid-19, and will be for some time, please don’t leave uniform until last minute this year. All blazers can be tried on as this is a must, but then they have to be aired for 24 hours which will cause delay for other customers.
The uniform will be available online at www.rasenuniform.co.uk and for those who know what they need, there will also be a collection point at the side window to try and prevent long queues.
If you have any queries please call 07788605778.
Opening Times are currently as follows but will be extended in July:
Tuesdays and Fridays 11am-4pm
The Uniform Shop, Willingham Road
The information provided is for the 2020 main intakes for Year 7.
National offer day
2 March 2020
Noon on 30 March 2020
Appeals hearings begin
27 April 2020
Appeals hearings end
19 June 2020
We hear appeals in office hours during school term time.
Where there are several appeals we will always try to group them together.
In planning appeals we will try to hear them in the order parents prefer and avoid times when parents tell us they are unavailable, but this is not always possible where there are several appeals for the same school.
Appeals received after the deadline will still be heard though may not be heard with those appeals received before the deadline.
It is important to submit your appeal as soon as possible so that it can be heard at the first available opportunity.
It is also in your best interests to do this as decisions are made after each set of appeals and no account will be taken of any appeals not yet heard.
It is therefore possible that if your appeal is not heard until a later date, decisions will already have been made by the Appeal Panel which could have resulted in an increase in the number of pupils attending the school.
For further information please see lincolnshire.gov.uk/schooladmissions
The transition from primary to secondary school is an important milestone in the lives of children and their families. To help prepare students in primary school for the transition to secondary school and to allow them an opportunity to visit and experience a day at De Aston, we offer a range of educational and enriched opportunities for Year 5 and Year 6 students throughout the year. These are aimed to enrich students’ learning whilst also allowing them to build friendships and develop their confidence so that they are ready for the transition to secondary school.
Please find below the current list of transition events running this academic year. Please note that we have limited spaces available for these events so if you are interested please speak to your primary school or contact Mrs Ruth Race, Transition Co-Ordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve a place for your child.
